Lazy Weekend

One thing we've learned about self-employment is that it can mess with your perception of time. Day, night, weekday, weekend. They can all start to look alike. And holidays? With no school and no family in town, holidays can fly under the radar. At the end of the year last year, I realized that we had celebrated New Years, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, and that was it! So this year we are trying to do better. We skimped on Valentine's Day, but we did dye Easter eggs with a friend, and this weekend, we had a real Memorial Day weekend. A three day weekend with no work of any kind. We went to the pool, the beach, to a bar-b-que, we drank a beer, read books, built bunny obstacle courses, Zach went to the movies and I went to a play, we had lazy mornings and watched DVDs at night. We listened to stories about veterans on the radio. It was lovely. A mini-vacation. I didn't check my email for three and a half days, and yesterday I even gave up on the phone. Bliss!

Fiddlin' Around

Yesterday we headed north to an area called Agoura Hills to attend the annual Topanga Banjo and Fiddle Festival.  We actually ran into some people we knew and enjoyed lounging in the shade while listening to some great tunes.  This trip has gotten me on a campaign to get a tent and get to camping.
