Buneee Partee

In honor of the having adopted Ewok and Henry one year ago, we threw a Bunny Bunny Birthday Brunch this afternoon. You can see the spread below--bunny cake, bunny crackers, fruits, veggies, muesli, and Zach made eggs, toast, and English muffins to order. We even used the fancy dishes.

The bunnies got a special bunday salad...

Which our little piggy Ewok devoured most of. Where does she put it?

There were bunny games! And bunny prizes!

And bunny photo ops!

Everyone loved watching the buns.

Bunny bunny happiness!

Things little and big:

I've been teaching some MFA acting classes at UC Irvine this quarter, and I just love it. I love the faculty, the students are talented and motivated, and it's just a happy place. I want to stay there forever and ever. Unfortunately the teacher I am filling in for will be back soon and they will no longer need me. But I am on the hunt for more teaching opportunities. Gran was right; I'm a teacher! Academia certainly has its perks...

Zach will go speak at a game developer's conference in San Francisco next month, and has been invited to speak at another conference in Vancouver later this year! We're hoping that this will result in some more SOUNDAWG clients.

This month we're celebrating the one year anniversary of the adoption of Ewok and Henry. We have a little party planned for next week. Photos and follow up to come.

We're scouting camping gear in the hopes to escape the city more this year.

We're on Season 6 out of 7 of The West Wing. This is a big deal.

I spent 5 hours on Saturday cleaning out and reorganizing my files. And it was fun. I am a Simms.

We're making lots of trips to the library. Z is into graphic novels, and I am am into books about creativity and intuition.

Z reconnected with a friend from high school, and she and her husband came over for dinner this week. Good fun with other Southerners!

I keep changing little things about the house, but mostly it feels complete. I love our little enchanted cottage.

And the winner is...

Big cooking week:

Linguine with mushrooms (I was disappointed, but Z liked it.)

Linda's white bean soup with red pepper crostini (Two thumbs up!)
Spaghetti squash (Zach made it with shallot butter)
Banana oat bran muffins (Acorn shaped, of course)
Tofu & veggie curry (in the crock pot)
Fresh squeezed orange juice (Oranges came from a tree in a friend's yard. As Dad would say, "Tastes just like candy")

Tastiest of the the week was not prepared by us:
Leonidas chocolates for Valentine's Day. Oh yum.

Eat your heart out, Beckers! LA has a lot of crazy, but it sure has good food.

Who's that knocking at my bivouac?

And this is what we call a bunny loaf.

Mom wanted suggestions for what to get Zach for Christmas. I mentally time travelled through the last year grasping for something that he really wanted or could use. The image that stuck: Zach, tossing and turning on top of the bedcovers in the summer heat, then making a trip to the freezer where he had left his pillow to cool. The man craves a cold pillow and is a constant pillow flipper. If only pillows had more than two sides, he might be able to keep his face cool enough. There was a lot of bellyaching over hot pillows last summer.

So I suggested a pillow that stays cool. Did such a thing exist? I wasn't sure. But since we've seen the advent of doggie raincoats and microwavable foot warmers, I figured there was a chance.

Scouts Mom and Christina found such an invention. Zach was pleased at Christmas. Mom mailed our holiday goodies and they arrived today.

This afternoon as I was going through our loot, Zach spotted his pillow, hugged it, and walked out of the room with it.

This is what I found in the other room:

Me: Did you do (some chore) yet?
Z: No. I just want to try out my pillow for a little while. And not think about anything that I have to do.
Me: I guess I better go away then.

That was 30 minutes ago. I dare not question his complex testing process.

I cannot wait to see this episode.
