Welcome

When I was 18 and Christina was 9, my family came to visit me at Furman for Parent's Weekend. Christina stayed in my dorm room, and Beckers and I took her to O'Charley's late at night for some caramel pie. Without permission from our parents. We just decided to go and went. I remember the mixed look of delight and terror in Binky's eyes. You can go where you want when you want? How naughty. How wonderful.
We also took her to the student center and around campus. I remember how excited I was the first time I visited campus, and I can only imagine how magical and fun it must have seemed to a nine year old. No big surprise that when it was time for Binky to look at colleges, Furman was high on the list.
And now, 13 years after her first visit to school, Christina is a graduate of Furman University.
Having been there myself, I know the academic challenges she has worked through. I also remember that for all the fun and happy memories that are being made, it can also be a personally challenging time. I'm so proud of her for the adult she has become. My little sissy! All growed up!
As usual, I've missed a major event due to career. Whether it's been touring, being in rehearsal or production, grad school, or now living in CA for career purposes, I've missed a lot of birthdays, weddings, get-togethers, births, and even funerals. And so with Binky's graduation. BUT. Furman did have the ceremony streaming on their website, and I got to watch the whole thing. Though it wasn't the same as being there, I did hear the Furman Singers, the speakers, Dr. Shi's last graduation remarks, and even saw Binky walk across the stage and accept her diploma. Here's a picture:
Binky, I'm so excited to see what unfolds for you. Welcome to the real world!

Zach went to another video game conference last week, this time in Vancouver. There was a smaller crowd for his talk this time, but he's already been contacted about a new project by someone that heard him speak there! Bonus: he stayed with a friend while he was there had mim-vacation over the weekend.
