The Screen Actors Guild has a program called SAG Foundation which sponsors free workshops open to all SAG members. Sometimes they are business related and the speaker talks about the SAG/AFTRA Federal Credit Union (that was an exciting one) or how to market yourself, or use some new film-related technology. But the fun ones are when they invite an actor, director, writer, or cast to come in for a Q&A. Last night I went to one with Rainn Wilson, an actor best known for his role as Dwight Schrute on The Office. First they did a screening of the season finale of The Office, and then a Q&A. He went to grad school at NYU, and I loved hearing him talk about the program there, what kind of training he got, and how it has benefitted his career. He was a theatre actor for years before he moved to LA and started pursuing film and television, and like every actor out there, he had stories about rejections and failures and disappointments. He talked a lot about the craft of acting and it was great to hear his slant on this as well as what he had to say about the business. It made me feel good about the decisions I am making now and the steps I am taking.

I like Rainn! He was funny, genuine, and down-to-earth. When you're competing for roles with Philip Seymour Hoffman, you're doin' alright.
